I have a love for old velvet boxes. They make the perfect house to hold my jewels. I first fell in love with them over twelve years ago when I was on vacation in Northern Michigan. I spotted a large Victorian red velvet box with gold lions trailing along the bottom and I have been hooked every since. I will show you a few peeks.
Along with tattered velvet boxes I adore old pieces of faded velvet. In the spring I bought a gorgeous (at least I think it is) piece of velvet at the Vanves flea market in Paris. There were old locks laid out on this piece of yummy tattered and perfectly faded velvet that was taped to an junky piece of old cardboard. The man seemed shocked when I asked him how much it would be for the velvet. He only charged me 2 euro. I just about died, little did he know that I only had 10 euro left after spending all my money very quickly at the flea market. It was the cheapest thing that I bought that day and is still one of my favorite things that I brought home. I just finished an article for Miss Jenny Doh, it will be in the Nov.- Dec. issue of Belle Armoire magazine. I am really excited about the article, Miss Jenny let me do the styling for the photo shoot which you will be able to see the glorious piece of velvet from Paris. It was fun working with Jenny and Michelle who is the new in house photographer. Miss Jenny is also becoming quite the photographer herself........
Here are a few more photos of some close ups of my favorite boxes............

I know what you mean- I love antique velvet as well, the rattier the better. I had some scraps torn off a picture frame that I kept for years and years, never finding anything good enough to use them on. One day (in a fit of heat-induced madness) I lined an assemblage box with them for an art exhibition, thinking it wouldn't be sold- and guess which piece was the only piece to sell, even before it got to the gallery? I think about those manky strips of fabric all the time...
