Wow, what a breath taking site that was!! I just returned home from a fun filled vacation. My family usually goes on a house boating trip over Memorial day weekend every year but unfortunately the resort that we use to go to on Lake Mojave sold their houseboats. So we decided to try a new adventure. A friend had told us about Bass Lake, his family had been renting a house on the lake for years.
We looked into it and ended up renting the same house with our good friends who we go house-boating with every year. After looking into renting a boat for the trip the boys decided to buy one since it was about the same price. Driving up over six hours dragging a boat took about three years off of my life. And we were not even the ones pulling the boat.
It was kinda like being a character in the Griswold Vacation movie. It took us about six and half hours to get there. It was very beautiful and the lake was a nice size, we were lucky to be there early in the summer because it was not crowed, I am sure this week it is a zoo.
We drove up to Yosemite and spent a day there. It only took 1 1/2 hours to drive there. I have never been to Yosemite before, it was breathtaking. The water level was quite low do to the lack of snow this year. We were able to walk up to the bottom set of falls and my son and his friend swam across the freezing cold water to the other side. My husband is a nature freak he would love to live there all alone and live off the land if he could. Not me, I do not share the same fondness to things that growl and bite. I am terrified of bears and snakes . Actually when we got at the falls my husband said, come on lets climb up to the waterfall and before I knew it everyone was gone. Everyone, except me, I need a few minutes to process things. All I could think about was that I had my big camera and it should not get wet. There I was left with every ones things and an overweight backpack. The longer I sat there watching them climb up the madder I got. I was so mad at myself for not going with them, I wanted the same experience. So after stewing for about thirty minutes which felt like eternity I grabbed every ones things and shoved them inside the over weight backpack along with my camera and started climbing the rocks alone. The weight of the bag was a bit of a pain. But I faced my fears of snakes, bears and heights and I did it, by myself and it felt so good. They were surprised when the saw me on the rocks under them.
If you look really closely at the photo above you can see people, the people are my family and our friends , I took this from the bottom where I was standing before I walked up. I also took the next photo below from where I was standing. These were taken moments before I decided to walk up, myself. So you can tell they were quite far up already.
The photos below were taken after I walked up the falls. The sound of the water crashing against the rocks and flowing down the mountain was so calmingl.
This is where I met up with them you can see my husband wearing the back pack that I just gave to him.
We had a great dock at the cabin that we were able to use the kids had a blast. The Forks was a darling little store/diner known for their hamburgers and shakes. We took the boat over to there for dinner one night and it was yummy!
The little boat was great fun. The kids did lots of skiing and wake boarding along with tubing!! The view was just wonderful and spending so much time was priceless.
Even the adults had some fun!!
I just loved this little crazy car that went flying past us. My girlfriend and I followed it down this small street and asked the owner if we could take a photo of it. I just love the squirrel tail hanging off the back!
Wishing you a wonderful start to your summer!! Happy fourth!
