Capturing a memory

I was so excited when I found these large metal vintage watch part cases.  They are the perfect container to display small objects, like the  French treasures that I have collected.  I have been waiting for a perfect home for the tattered paper bird shown below for quite some time.

I am also loving the vintage French hand carved meerschaum and the large ivory piece with the caved image of Jesus, they mix so beautifully with gemstones.

I had so much fun working on pieces today.  I just love thinking about the history of each piece and imagining who's hands had created it so long ago.

The art of storage.  Using vintage finds really helps to make practical things so much more beautiful to look at.

Adding casters to an old box makes a great place to store books under a desk.

Metal urns and trophey's are a wonderful place to store pens and pencils on top of a desk.

Vintage glass canning jars make perfect containers for coffee, beans and rice!  They also make a great vase for flowers!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's day yesterday!! 

I had to share these photos I took from my phone when I was walking to my car the other night in Laguna Beach.  Someone had gotten pretty creative asking someone's hand in marriage!!

LIke the sign says, it was too cute!! I sure hope she said, YES!!!

I almost forgot to mention that my husband was late on Valentine's Day night because he had to help our friend put their Turtle to sleep???  I never thought I would be stood up because of a turtle. Ha ha!!  No lie, he had to stop by a friend's house to pick something up for me, when he arrived there my friend's husband was really upset.  They have had two turtles for years and one of them had gotten really sick overnight and he was not sure what to do with him.  Our friend is very much a Man's man he is quite the dude.  So when my husband saw him so upset he couldn't just leave.  They tried to figure out how to put him out of his misery.  So they called the animal hospital and they told him to put him in a bag and then in a box and place it in the freezer.  How crazy is that.  I couldn't believe how shaken up my hubby was from this.  One little turtle??? !!!  They always kinda gave me the willie's and my friend knows this but I am sad for them that they lost there little buddy.  May he rest in peace!! 

I am in LOVE with Micheal Cutlip's work!!

 

I have been in love with a painting hanging on the wall in Bloomingdale's at South Coast Plaza for about a year.  I made it my task to figure out who the artist was today.  So up and down the escalator I went until I could find and actually read the name of the artist.HIs name was written on a small 2" by 1" card next to the painting.  I am sure I looked like a crazy lady going up and down the escalator with my phone shooting photos the whole time. With little luck.   At least now I know who this artist is and I am determined to own one of his painting.

As you can tell by the photos it is not very easy to take a photo from your phone of something while moving on an escalator!!  The artist of the painting is named Micheal Cutlip.  Here are a few more photos of his work!!  Love His work soooo much!!
