When I am in Michigan one of my favorite things to do is to jump in the car and drive out to the country and hit the local antique stores that I run across. There are so many wonderful places. Unfortunately like all places it is getting harder and harder to find treasures. In Toledo Ohio they have a huge sale in the spring in the Historical district. It use to be wonderful, actually quite dreamy. In the midst of a scary down town area lies these amazing Victorian and turn of the century homes. They use to all have garage sales on a certain weekend twice a year. There would be music playing, food being sold on the streets and home tours were given. It was like going to a carnival but way better. The home owners would sell the most amazing things. You could find antique chandeliers, architecture pieces, paintings, vintage dishes and toys. There were so many pretty things and they were affordable. My cousin I were so excited one year, that we actually rented a u-haul. The funny thing is that we left with an empty u-haul. I bought a bird cage and she left with a chandelier. The year before we had things busting out of our car. I remember this one lady who had the most beautiful old linens and vintage millinery flowers. Oh, I wish it were still so magical. My mother went this past year and said there was hardly anything there and no food or music................... So sad.... I just hate it when dreamy things like this have to end. Well I thought I would share a few of the goodies that I found on my trip to Michigan this year. Please share your stories of wonderful sales you use to or still do attend!
